About Caroline

Why I love being a Travel Consultant

I have worked in the travel industry for over 25 years and my enthusiasm for travelling is still as strong as ever. It is wonderful to share the knowledge I have accumulated over the years with my clients and to find the right country/destination/hotel for each individual.

Peoples’ tastes, circumstances, budgets and requirements all vary hugely and with so many years in the industry I like to think I can find exactly the right holiday for each and every one of my clients.

Making sure that their trips are expertly planned so that their holiday surpasses expectations is of ultimate importance to me and the perfect compliment is the fact that so many clients book with me time after time.

It is my mantra that whilst I cannot have been everywhere I always know somebody who has expert knowledge of any required destination. Over the years I have built up amazing connections around the world with hotels, airlines, general managers and tour operators – so between all of us we can plan and organise the perfect holiday.

My Top 5 Places In The World

  1. France – My first love is Provence.  For me it’s just about the light, the countryside, the cuisine and way of life. An early morning bike ride followed by delicious croissants and coffee (well earned) not to mention the odd glass of pale rosé later in the day.
  2. New Zealand – Adventure all the way.  Stunning roads and scenery make for an amazing driving experience.  Queenstown is the adventure capital of South Island with jet boat riding and helicopter/light aircraft trips over Milford Sound to mention a few highlights. Wine tasting in Marlborough, a trip to Waiheke Island, the Coromandel Peninsula, accommodation in some of the finest lodges in the world – just a few of the highlights to mention.
  3. Namibia – A country of great contrast and beauty.  Your lasting impression will be of wide open spaces, spectacular scenery and almost year round sunshine and unique experiences.  The views don’t get much better as you fly from Sossusvlei to Swakopmund and on to the Skeleton Coast.  Quad biking in the dunes are a photographer’s dream – and fine dining on the beach – just a couple of memories!
  4. The Maldives – The ultimate destination for those wanting an unforgettable romantic experience.  From five star properties to Robinson Crusoe style hotels.  Deserted beaches, crystal clear balmy waters – the perfect holiday destination to unwind with good food, a few good books and to be spoilt rotten.
  5. Skiing & Italy – There as so many amazing places to ski, from well known resorts such as Lech in Austria, the Three Valleys – I have a real soft spot for St. Martin de Belleville, Whistler and Vail to little know resorts such as Champoluc in Italy.  So much depends on when you can travel, proximity to slopes, transfer times, altitude etc. all these points should be considered before booking a ski holiday. From Lake Como to Venice, Florence, Portofino, the Amalfi Coast, Capri – not to mention Sicily and Sardinia.  Italy has so much to offer, so many different experiences from romantic breaks for adults to family holidays ….and I have not even mentioned the food!
My Top 3 Travel Tips
  1. If you are planning a long-haul trip take time to see each place properly rather than trying to cram too much into one trip.  If you are going to South America for example, Chile is a destination in itself, or Brazil and Argentina work well together – but don’t try and do them all.
  2. If you can give us a realistic budget with which to work and an idea of your plans, we can find the perfect holiday for you. There are so many destinations, accommodation types and things to do on holiday.  We can work with you to design a bespoke holiday to suit all your plans.
  3. Get what you really want from your holiday and compromise on the length of your holiday rather than the other way round.  Much better to go to the hotel you want and to have the room you want for 10 nights rather than compromise for 14 nights.
Caroline's Client Reviews

Spirit Away is always our first port of call for travel. Most recently, we have returned from a trip to India incorporating Jaipur and a tiger safari in Ranthambore, Rajasthan, before flying south to Cochin where we were immersed in a plethora of tea and spice plantations as well as the tranquil backwaters of Kerala. As always, a well thought out itinerary but over and above that the added value comes in the level of service that Caroline delivers ensuring that our entire travelling experience never fails to meet expectations. Whether we have booked a week in the sun on the Amalfi Coast or a tailored adventure across South Africa or India, I have always been relaxed in the knowledge that I feel that every consideration has been made to make it the most consummate of experiences.

From the start I felt Spirit Away Travel was an agent with a difference. Caroline's knowledge of and contacts within the travel world are unsurpassed. You are kept well informed of every step and their attention to detail is superb. We were made to feel valued clients. This is bespoke travel with the personal touch and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Spirit Away Travel embodies the essence of bespoke luxury travel, and with people such as Caroline at the end of a telephone, one can be assured of that “personal touch”. Her knowledge of destinations, and her willingness to suggest ideas or itineraries are a godsend. Also the ability to cope with the most complicated schedule, fitting together multi-destination holidays with flights, transfers, hotels, and those all-important “extras” such as dinner reservations, theatre tickets, speciality hire cars, down to a dozen red roses for my wife waiting in the room on Valentine’s day, are what makes me use Spirit Away Travel for all my holiday bookings. Perhaps one other very important factor in always returning to Caroline is that she is always available. Even when she is halfway round the world, either on holiday herself, or seeking out new hotels and destinations…she is never too busy to respond… It is service such as this that sets Spirit Away Travel apart from other travel services, and I for one will be using them for all my travel needs...

Ah ‘tis holiday time again, and this time we {went} to Grenada and the Spice Island Beach Resort courtesy of Caroline at Spirit Away Travel who arranged everything... So, many thanks Caroline for suggesting, and organising our hols. It was great. Here’s to the next trip.

“…another trip was planned {by Caroline}; this time Vietnam. Back to Caroline who expertly and effortlessly came up with a wonderful itinerary allowing me and a girlfriend of mine to see the entire country as well as having some perfect R&R time at the end of the trip. We were met and greeted at every hotel and provided with cheerful and fun guides. Preferring to travel in a non- group scenario it is vitally important to have guides who you really connect with as you spend a lot of time with them seeing all the wonders of Vietnam. Trip two - a triumph!

Kerstin Olszowska,

…time to reward myself and my son with an adventure in the form of travel. Canada was our destination and having a very savvy young son who knows the internet like the back of his hand it was decided that we should design this trip on our own. Two days into the planning I put my hands up in the air and cried “Help”………this was too stressful and cumbersome. This is where Caroline came into the picture….She took me by the hand and guided me through brochures, options, possibilities and all in a very calm and professional way. The end result was a trip of a lifetime. We saw the most amazing places, stayed in wonderful accommodation, were met by reps and our itinerary couldn’t have been more suitable for a mother and son trip.

Thanks a million for putting.. {our holiday} together for us. You got it absolutely spot on and we will remember this first overseas big road-trip together for a long time. The pace was just right and the places we stayed in fabulous. There were days when comfort was the name of the game and others when there was definite luxury, just the kind of mix I like and you now know is my cup of tea… There were some very subtle and lovely moments of magic dust being sprinkled and I wonder if that is your doing?! In which case, massive thanks.… For now, a million thanks from the bottom of my heart and the same goes for Robert of course.”
