Exploring the hotels of Anguilla
I was lucky enough to visit Anguilla to see how some of the Island Hotels had recovered from Hurricane Irma in 2017.
We flew out via Antigua with Virgin Atlantic, the flight took 8.5 hours. It was a great start to the trip. The check in staff were friendly and helpful.
On the flight (both ways) I would have to say the flight attendants were rather laid back and at times rude (fortunately not all the staff). The food in premium was very average and annoyingly they ran out of chicken (both ways). When I asked the attendant she said it always happens and that chicken is really popular. The new Upper Class is rather cramped and you can barely walk down the isles, good selection of movies and tv shows.
On arrival in Antigua we had to go through immigration then check out to go straight to Anguilla. We flew over on a little 8 seater plane which took 45 mins. Anguilla airport is tiny (hence no direct flights) we went through very quickly to our private car transfer to the hotel.
Our first stop was The Four Seasons – What a great hotel to start the trip. Everything looked immaculate! Delicious food with a good selection for people with dietary requirements, good sport facilities and classes. I stayed in a lovely ocean view suite. For real luxury head for one of the stunning 4 & 5 bed villas, there are also penthouses (part of the residences)
The next day we explored the the island, but it didn’t take long. This is definitely a fly & flop destination! We did however, have a great trip out to Sandy Island, an idilic spot for r&r with great food. Loved it!
The following day we went to check out hotel Moulihana – It’s a beautiful hotel, with a lovely setting overlooking a stunning beach where you can see all the way along to the Four Seasons. The cove looked nicely protected. Delicious lunch with a good selection of dishes all tasted amazing!
We also visited the villas, they have great staff! I think it would be a fab place to stay with a group of friends.
We then moved on to CuisinArt Hotel & Golf Resort and The Reef
Not up to the standard of the other hotels we visited. More like a 4* Rooms and facilities were good. They have a children’s water play area but no kids club. Nice pool, gym and a Spa (I had a great massage from Nicholas)
You can eat at the CuisinArt restaurants or head over to The Reef Hotel (next door, where the golf course is located) The highlight was lunch at Mosaic and dinner in Tokyo Bay
David & I were lucky enough to play golf at the Greg Norman designed course. They have a fantastic package to play. As a guest it’s just $100 for a round of golf which includes golf club hire (top of the range Taylor Made), shoe hire, range balls and a golf cart. Amazing! The course was in good condition and challenging enough for the average holiday golfer.
We then had a trip over to Zemi Beach House. Wow! what a great hotel. It’s compact and easy to get around (although a hill to get to your rooms and entrance) with a buggy to take guests up and down the hill if required. Rooms are all identical in style but tastefully furnished. The outlook to the beach and sea is stunning with turquoise designs on the umbrellas to pull your eye to the beautiful blue of the sea. The food and beverage areas are all close together to give easy access. Fab spa transported from Thailand! I would have been very happy chilaxing there and having a treatment or two.
Good facilities for children (best hotel for families out of all the ones we saw) Loved it!
Well, I thought Zemi Beach topped my list until we came to Belmond Cap Jaluca. What a gorgeous hotel.
The reception area is known as The Lounge, very comfy and relaxed putting you at ease on arrival. Beautiful rooms all with views of the Ocean which as with all the resorts is stunning. Great facilities. Dinner in their Peruvian Restaurant was very good, I think we tried most of the menu and it didn’t disappoint. Breakfast was a hearty affair with a great selection. I can’t wait to go back!
Then it was time to go. I had the pleasure :0 of being in the co pilots seat on the way back to Anguilla, the plus side being you had good air conditioning. It was a smooth flight back with good views of the islands.
On arrival in Antigua we had quite a few hours to kill before our flight home. We went over to Hodges Bay which has just opened and only about 10 minutes from the airport. Great spot for lunch and they have shower rooms to freshen up in before heading back to the airport for your flight home.
Fabulous trip and a destination I will definitely head back to.
